About the design concept of Honda Tadakatsu
This warrior, Honda Heihachiro Tadakatsu, was known to be an extremely strong and skilled spear wielder. His cherished spear was called Tonbogiri, which has the following story associated with it.
Tonbogiri was originally owned by the Hatamoto clan but was later passed on to Honda Tadakatsu. This spear is renowned for the many achievements of Tadakatsu and is counted among the "Three Great Spears of the Land." There is a tale that a dragonfly caught on the spear's tip was cut in two, which is how it got its name. It is said to have been about 6 meters long (standard long spears are about 4.5 meters). Made by Muramasa. However, in his later years, it seems he experienced a decline in physical strength and stated, "The best spear is one that suits my strength," leading him to shorten the spear's handle. Replicas can be seen at places like Okazaki Castle.
