The 38th event was filled with surprises despite clear skies, with Yamaha achieving victory for the first time in 19 years under a factory team setup.
This year’s event saw the highest number of entries in the last decade with 84 teams. Due to a grid limit of 70, 14 teams were eliminated during the timed qualifying on Friday.
Last year's champions, MuSASHi RT HARC-PRO., welcomed Casey Stoner, a two-time MotoGPTM champion, in a bid for a three-peat. Yamaha, celebrating 60 years of racing activities, revived its factory team. Led by ace Katsuyuki Nakasuga, active MotoGPTM riders Pol Espargaro and Bradley Smith rode the new YZF-R1.
In the finals, multiple crashes involving leading teams occurred, resulting in a record 6 safety car deployments, leading to dramatic turns of events. Amidst this, the YAMAHA FACTORY RACING TEAM, despite incurring penalties, showcased their strength and claimed victory after 19 years. F.C.C. TSR Honda, who had podium finisher Dominique Aegerter from the previous year, came in second. Team KAGAYAMA, utilizing Ryuichi Kiyonari, also managed to clinch a podium spot for the third consecutive year, despite a crash, by limiting their pit stops to 6.
